My wife noticed the missing goatee

Not a particularly good picture, but here's how it looks today
At a wedding reception last night, I found out that my wife noticed that I had shaved my chin after I joked with other people that she had not noticed the change.  When some acquaintances made comments about my mustache, she mentioned to them that I had also shaved off the goatee.

Later she asked me when I had done this, and I told her Thursday morning.  She said that liked the goatee, preferred my old mustache, but that the hairs were not bothering her as much when kissing.  She made no ultimatums, just these comments.

When one of our mutual acquaintances made the comment how much she really liked my mustache, I told her that my wife did not.  She said that she would have to talk to her about that.

Shaved the Goatee - 5th Month

Today is what I consider to be the five month birthday of my mustache and I decided to make a change.

Here is my last picture with my goatee

Ramblings on thoughts, the goatee, waiter tip income, styling products, and keeping hair out of my mouth.

After the latest goatee trim this morning

Thoughts flooding through my head

I love my mustache ... I hate my mustache ... It is looking great today... It is looking awful ... I am going to shave it off ... I will keep it forever ... I look really stupid ... man, that mustache is awesome ... The left side is corkscrewing and won't hold together ... my right side has a great curl today ... the goatee is staying ... time to shave the goatee ... perhaps I need to just trim the goatee.

Welcome to my thoughts this weekend. As I had every thought and emotion possible regarding the mustache.  I start loathing the difficulty that it is giving me, but suddenly I get hit with a couple of compliments and I love it again.

Barbershop Visit

Today looked like the right day for a haircut and facial hair trim.  An area-wide Internet and cell phone service blackout meant that my other work would not get done, so off I went to the barbershop.

Not Sure that I Need to Wax Daily and Goatee Musings

For the last couple of days, I have not been using wax. I really find that my mustache hair is so wiry, that it holds its position pretty well without it. Even the couple of hairs that desire to hang down into my mouth can be finger-combed out of the way. Perhaps I will only need wax or another substance to style the tips and put in curls when the they are finally long enough to do so.

Trimming the Goatee to Make the Mustache Look Bigger.

Before and after reduction of the goatee
Can I make my mustache look bigger by making my beard smaller?  I think so.

Trimmed the Goatee... and I Like It!

After the goatee trim - over exposed on purpose to better show the facial hair.

Today I trimmed the goatee but left everything above the mouth untrimmed and I must say that I like the results.

Starting to Comb

The whiskers are now at the length where they benefit from some combing.  Only a handful are reaching my lips.  So here is how it looks at an apparent mustache age of 28 days and 16 days since my last trim.

In this video, I talk about how I am now combing it, using some hair jell in it, and my current status and plans.

The Plan - Growing the Mustache, Removing the Goatee and No Trimming

In my research, I saw that there were two competing ideas on how to grow a handlebar mustache.  One involves trimming the area immediately above the mouth, and letting the sides grow out.  The other is to NEVER trim the center of the mustache but comb all hairs to the outside.  I have decided to go with the latter approach.

First post - the beginning of the journey

Welcome to my epic mustache blog where I take you along in my journey living with an epic handlebar mustache.  Today is May 29, 2013 and I am about to begin my journey in having an awesome mustache.
