American Crew Fiber

Using American Fiber Crew

Hold still going strong about 14 hours after applying American Crew Fiber

OK, I was wrong.  A couple of days ago, I posted how I was happily styling my mustache with no need for waxes.  Then, just as quickly as it really started to fill out and lengthen in the last week, the lower hairs decided to start a full assault on my mouth.
Unaided combing (either with a comb or the fingers) just was not working.  After each pass where hairs were directed away and to the side, their replacements jumped in.  Eating, drinking, and just trying to keep my mouth clear became a real challenge. So... for at least now, I need assistance to better control my mustache.

I decided to try another new product after watching the video below (you can skip to 6:00 unless you are also interested in his hat collection).  As this guy has an awesome stache, I figured that he knew what he was talking about.  He uses American Crew Fiber followed by Bartwichse wax.

Though it is not specifically a mustache wax, American Crew Fiber does have the advantage of being available at my local Smith's (no such luck with Bartwichse).  At $15.99 for a 3.5 oz jar, it is not cheap.  However, since Clubman cost $3.99 for a .5 ounce tube, the price-per-ounce is better for the American Crew Fiber.

I found that it did a good job of keeping the hairs off of my lips and maintaining the general shape.  It has a much softer feel than Clubman.  It lacks the power of a really strong wax and probably will not work for curls and sharp tips.  As I don't have the length for these yet.

Comments and Reactions

It is kind of funny how that people who don't see me on a daily basis, know that something has changed, but cannot quite identify what.  Don - a bearded guy I know from the community chorus - said that, "you look really good in your facial hair" when I greeted him yesterday.  Strangely, he has never seen me without facial hair.  I graciously thanked him for this compliment.

Karen - who works in my office once a week - this morning told me that she "liked what I was doing." with my mustache.

So far all the feedback I have received is positive.  As my old goatee and mustache combination rarely generated any comments, I am enjoying the attention that the handlebar gives - even though its is still just a little one.

Next week I am heading for a family reunion.  I look forward to seeing what reactions family gives it as none of them have seen me in anything other than my old look for many years.
